In 1998 Dr. Martin Seligman began the field of positive psychology, which is based on:

• Positive subjective experiences
  (happiness, pleasure, gratification, fulfillment, well-being)
• Positive individual traits that contribute to positive experiences
  (character, talents, interests, values)
• Positive institutions that provide the venues for positive traits and
  positive experiences to come forth
  (families, schools, businesses, communities, societies)*
