Nigel Brookes, MA

Nigel Brookes is an Arts Administrator with the City of San Diego's Commission for Arts and Culture. He has worked as a program manager and grant writer for non-profits, a trainer, and a college instructor. As a native San Diegan, Nigel has been creating, studying, writing about, and showing art his entire life. With an increasingly keen attention to surrealism and the archetypes of dreams, his current interests are in the overlapping myths and performance rituals associated with mask making, and in combining fabricated, found, and manipulated objects for site-specific installations. His aspiration is to effectively blur the distinction between "art venue" and "sacred space."

Nigel earned a Masters Degree in Communication with a research and teaching emphasis in art, philosophy of language, and organizational and cultural theory. His graduate thesis is an ethnographic study of how and why art-makers are compelled to first create and then share their creations with others.
